Theme 2019: Remember the past, create the future
2019 is a special year for the international Pride movement. In June 2019 it was 50 years ago that the riots broke out at the Stonewall Inn in New York. After years of harassment and violence by the police, the visiting public decided it was time to fight back. Amongst the people fighting back where many transvestites and trans women. By doing so they started the Pride revolution.
Because of the Stonewall 50 anniversary, our theme this year is ‘Remember the past, create the future’. History is important to understand where you come from and why things are the way they are. It gives you a good basis to think about the future and how we can achieve things.
In the Pride Walk the theme is depicted with 75 signs on which a milestone or person from the past (remembering the past) is shown or a goal for the future is displayed.
Yelena Grigoryeva
Pride Walk 2019 is dedicated to Yelena Grigoryeva. This LGBTQI + activist was murdered in Saint Petersburg last Sunday. Grigoryeva has been receiving death threats for a long time because of her commitment to the Russian LGBTQI + movement. For example, she was often present at protests and manifestations. She wore signs with texts such as: “In Russia, more than five million people are gay. Because of madness and hate, they have to live in secrecy. ” During the Pride Walk Manifestation on the Homomonument a sign with a photo of Grigoryeva will be on the Homomonument. This sign is then carried out in front of the parade by a personal friend.
Pride Walk Manifestation
A Manifestation will take place at the Homomonument from 11:00 to 12:00. During the Mannifestation people representing different groups in our community will speak.

Addition Inventory Intangible Heritage
Pride Amsterdam is officially nominated to be part of the Intangible Heritage of the Netherlands. This was announced by the Intangible Heritage Netherlands Knowledge Center. Addition to the Intangible Heritage Inventory of the Netherlands indicates that a heritage community, in this case the Pride community, is actively and consciously committed to the future of its intangible heritage. It contributes to awareness of the importance of this heritage within and outside the community. The Intangible Heritage Inventory of the Netherlands is a means to help safeguard the heritage.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday 27 July during Pride Walk. The addition will take place at the Museumplein together with the municipality of Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum, KIEN and Pride Amsterdam.
Route
The Pride Walk will be specially adapted for the Intangible Heritage registration ceremony of Pride Amsterdam. We will walks under the Rijksmuseum towards the Museumplein. Advertising the motto ‘Material heritage meets intangible heritage’, the Rijksmuseum will be shrouded in rainbow colors especially for that day. The route is as follows: Homomonument – Paleisstraat – Dam – Rokin – Munt – Vijzelstraat – Weteringschans – Rijksmuseum – Museumplein – Hobbemastraat – Stadhouderskade – Vondelpark Open Air Theater.
Flags
As an important part of the Pride Walk we carry the flags of the countries where homosexuality is in the Penal Code. In terms of flags, the Pride Walk follows the list of the International lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex association (ILGA). For ILGA 2019 country list click here.

Equal Rights Coalition
Since 2016, the Equal Rights Coalition has been marching in the Pride Walk. The Equal Rights Coalition is an alliance of more than 40 countries committed to promoting the rights of LGBTQI + people around the world.
